Angela's PaperArts: Stampin' Up! Alphabet a la mode Valentine's Day card

If you're running behind with your Valentine's Day cardmaking, this is a simple card which doesn't require any special Valentine's Day stamps.  All you need is some letter dies, like the Stampin' Up! Alphabet A La Mode dies to create the word 'LOVE', some paper and embellishments of your choice.

Angela's PaperArts: Stampin Up Alphabet a la mode Valentine's Day card and double stenciling technique

I also used the Country Gingham Designer Series Paper, Poppy Parade ink, Blending Brushes and a double stenciling technique to create this card.

TUTORIAL: The steps to make this card are

  1. Make a square card base and layer some Country Gingham Designer Series Paper on top.
  2. Hand cut or diecut a large heart shape and use the negative of the diecut as a stencil.
  3. Using Poppy Parade ink and Stampin' Up! Blending Brushes, blend ink inside the diecut heart shape onto some Basic White cardstock.
  4. With the heart stencil still in place, overlay the inked heart with another stencil and use the Blending Brush to add more Poppy Parade ink.  This resulted in the diamond shapes appearing on the heart with tone on tone colour.
  5. Mat the heart cardstock onto some Poppy Parade cardstock.
  6. Wrap some linen thread around the heart.  This becomes a base to place the LOVE letters.
  7. Diecut the LOVE letters from the Alphabet a la mode dies in Poppy Parade cardstock and adhere onto the card on top of the linen thread.
  8. Adhere the heart cardstock onto the card base.
  9. Add some little resin hearts to complete the card.

By using alphabet dies to create a card's sentiment, you don't need to have a special stamp set on hand.  These techniques, both the double stenciling and using alphabets for sentiments, can be used to create cards for any occasion, not just Valentine's Day.

If you're not familiar with ink blending or using blending brushes, you can learn all about it from my video tutorial here.

Angela's PaperArts: Whimsical Woodland Masked Christmas Card

I wanted to highlight how cute the Stampin' Up! Whimsical Woodland 3D embossing folder is on these cards.

Angela's PaperArts: Stampin' Up! Whimsical Woodland 3D embossing folder mask technique Christmas card

I used a masking technique to create the coloured centre piece to highlight the embossing on both of these cards.  For the card on the left, I used metallic gilding polish from my stash for a bright finish.  For the card on the right, I used a Stampin' Up! blending brush to blend three inks for a softer look.

Which do you prefer?

Here's the ink blended version with three different Stampin' Up! ink colours.

Angela's PaperArts: Stampin' Up! Artistically Inked mask card

I've been doing more masking and ink blending again using a diecut as my mask and featuring the Artistically Inked stamp set & co-ordinating dies bundle.

I used the beautiful floral spray diecut from the Artistic dies set which is part of the Artisically Inked bundle used on this card as my mask and added ink using my Stampin' Up! Blending Brushes.

After adding ink

Once I removed the mask I was left with the negative image which I turned into a birthday card.  I could have left the mask on the card, but I'll share with you next time how I used it to create another card - I basically got two cards out of the one technique using both the positive and negative images.

Tip:  So if you don't have the right plastic mask, use one of your dies instead to create what you need. The products used are currently available and can be purchased from my online store if you live in Australia.

I enjoy ink blending and using masks so thought I'd feature a card using these techniques today.  Here's the finished card.
