Sunburst 19th birthday card

Birthday cards are needed all year around and I made this card for a special young man in my life.

I started with a Stampin' Up! Whisper White card base and layered it with Night of Navy card stock and the striped paper from the Floral Boutique Designer Series Paper pack.  Yes, even with a name like 'Floral Boutique', these double sided papers have many versatile patterns that can be used for both male or female cards and scrapbooking pages too.  I used the Sunburst thinlits die to cut out the Night of Navy sunburst and then embossed it using the Lucky Stars embossing folder.  The sentiment was from the Sunburst Sayings stamp set which can be purchased together with the Sunburst thinlit as a bundle which saves you 10% off the RRP if they were to be purchased separately. I also diecut two circles, one Night of Navy and one Silver Foil using the new Stitches Shapes framelits.  I love the stitched look, particularly around the Silver Foil circle.  I added some metallic thread under the star sentiment and layered it altogether onto the card with two metallic star enamel dots too.  The number '19' was die cut using the retired Little Numbers dies.

Below is a close up of the sentiment cluster which had been layered onto the Silver Foil circle die cut using the new Stitched Shapes framelits.  One of the best things about these new framelits is that you get four sizes of Circle, Oval and Square dies all in the one packet - plenty of variety.

Grunge rock birthday card

My son asked me to make a card for his friend who is turning 17 tomorrow.  I asked what his friend was interested in and the answer was rock and heavy metal music.  Hmm.. when I think of heavy metal music I think of leather, grunge/distress and dark colours and so I set out to make a card which incorporated these three elements.

Here's the end result:

I hadn't used my retired Stampin' Up! grunge rock stamp set in a while and thought it was perfect for this situation.  I kept to a Basic Black, Basic Gray and Smoky Slate colour scheme.  For texture, I added a layer of Basic Gray cardstock which had been embossed using the Chevron embossing folder and distressed with my Memento black inkpad. I then added a strip of leather, the Starburst Sayings stamp set 'Celebrate' sentiment die cut using the matching Starburst framelits in the Big Shot and the card was done.  A simple card, but just right for a teenage boy.  I also decorated the inside of the card too using the Grunge Rock stamp set.

Don't forget to that during August, Stampin' Up! has a fantastic deal on the Big Shot machine where you get a free bundled stamp set and matching framelits set too.  To see the options and take advantage of this deal click on this link to my online store.  http://www3.stampinup.com/ECWeb/ItemList.aspx?categoryid=1153&dbwsdemoid=4011749
