Angela's PaperArts: Penguin Place bundle birthday card

The new Stampin' Up! July-December mini catalogue launched recently, along with a second Sale-A-Bration catalogue for this year which is on now and ends on 30 September.

Angela's PaperArts: Stampin Up Xmas 2021 mini and SAB

One of my favourite bundles from the new mini catalogue is the Penguin Place stamp set with its co-ordinating Penguin Punch.  As a bonus during Sale-a-Bration, you can also get the co-ordinating Penguin Playmates 12x12" Designer Series Paper for free too with an eligible $90 order.

Angela's PaperArts: Stampin Up Penguin Place Bundle & SAB Penguin Playmates DSP

So why do I like this bundle - because it's so cute and it's also a versatile bundle that isn't just for Christmas.

For this week's card I made a birthday card featuring the bundle, the Sale-A-Bration Penguin Playmates DSP plus the Basic Border dies were used to create the 'clouds' background.

I have two tips to share with you for making this card:

Tip 1: Some of the penguins printed on the Penguin Playmates DSP can be punched out using the Penguin Punch.  The penguin on my card was one punched out of the paper instead of being stamped and punched out. I used a scrap post-it-note as a handle to make it easier to punch out the penguin.

Tip 2: If you have the recently retired balloon punch, you can punch out the stamped balloons using the small balloon in that punch instead of having to fussy cut them.

The products used are currently available and can be purchased from my online store if you live in Australia.

Balloon birthday card

Who's a fan of the movie Up?  When making this birthday card using the Stampin' Up! Balloon Bouquet punch, the movie Up came to mind and inspired some of the design.

This card also shows how to add some interest to punched shapes too by doing more than just punching card stock:

  1. Punch Designer Series Paper
  2. Dry emboss the punched shape, or
  3. Use a background or texture stamp to add some colour to the punched shape.
These are just three things you can do to step up a plain punched shape.

If you'd like to learn cardmaking, please contact me as various online classes are available to Australian residents to complete at their leisure.  I'll return to in person classes sometime in the future once the COVID-19 pandemic allows us to safely gather and craft with shared supplies again.

Happy Birthday card: 2018-20 In-Color Call Me Clover

Here's a fun birthday card featuring the last of the new 2018-20 In-Colors, Call Me Clover.

Stampin' Up! Happy Birthday card by Angela Lovel, Angela's

To create this card I started with a Call Me Clover card base layered with some Call Me Clover Designer Series Paper.  I diecut the Happy Birthday sentiment and adhered it onto some Whisper White and Grapefruit Grove card stock.  The balloons were stamped using the Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set, punched out with the Balloon Bouquet punch and tied to the sentiment with some Linen Thread. A little piece of 1/8" Graperfruit Grove grosgrain ribbon was tied into a bow and completed the card.

If you like this card, all products used are listed below and available from my online shop.  I also conduct papercrafting classes each month - please contact me for further details if you live in Melbourne, Australia.  Private classes for you and your friends can be arranged for local crafters.

Balloon popup surprise card

Why not surprise your friends by creating a card using the Stampin' Up! Balloon Adventures bundle which includes the Balloon Adventures stamp set and Balloon Popup Thinlits dies.

The front of the card looks innocent enough....

However, opening the card gives the recipient a surprise as the centrepiece pops out.

For the front of the card, I started with a Stampin' Up! Pacific Point card base and added a some of the Party Animal Designer Series Paper at the bottom of the card.  I then stamped the birthday sentiment from the Balloon Adventures stamp set onto some Whisper White card stock and added it to the front of the card too.  I stamped the balloons using the same colour ink onto matching card stock and punched them out using the Balloon Bouquet punch.  Some twine and enamel shapes completes the front of the card.

For the inside of the card, I used the Balloon Pop-up thinlits on a piece of Whisper White 1cm smaller than the card base to diecut the centre focal piece.  Balloons were stamped or diecut and added to the centre piece.  A small layer of Party Animal Designer Series Paper was also added to the sides of the popup centre piece.  Streamers and the Happy Birthday sentiment were stamped on the inside too.  The final touch of a metallic party hat from the Party Animal Embellishments completes the card.

The products used on this card have been listed below - just click on the picture and it will take you to my online store where the product can be purchased. Workshops and papercrafting classes are also available - please contact me for details.  Don't forget that from now until 31 March, spend $90 on Stampin' Up! products and you get to choose a free Sale-a-Bration item.
